Collection account reported after it’s disputed?

Collection account reported after it’s disputed?

Can a collection account be reported after it’s disputed? The question came in about a collection account that was actually disputed and removed. Then showed up again later, it’s a very common thing to have happen. When consumers dispute an account on their credit report, it is removed from the credit profile after 30 days. If the creditor responds after the original 30 days. That information can be added back into the credit profile after it was validated, and sometimes that can take a little longer than 30 days.

That’s why the credit repair strategy to dispute everything negative on the credit report will normally fail.

The creditor has 30 days to respond to that inquiry. If the collection company doesn’t respond in the 30 days, the collection account will be removed. Here is the catch- they can validate the debt after that and normally they do. They respond to that dispute and validate the debt. Suddenly it just shows back up again on the credit report.

It can be frustrating for people.

It doesn’t matter whether consumers receive the service or they don’t or if they received poor service. Disputing is not a way to resolve that type of issue. Consumers need to resolve any kind of a service issue before they report the collection to the repository. Mass-disputing is never an effective way to remove things from consumer’s credit report. Consumers need to focus on is are “actual errors” and then go to the creditor and try to resolve that error. Then if the creditor won’t work with them you can go to the repositories and dispute the debt. Then they can try to validate the debt with that creditor with the repositories.

There are a lot of different ways to handle errors on your credit report. Consumers should never use the dispute process because they did not like the service they received. It will never be an effective way to try to clear up your credit report.
